The tallest lighthouse on the West Coast and unfettered access to 12 miles of California's undeveloped coastline await you at the California Coastal National Monument at Point Arena.
Thanks to the recent acquisition of land for public access you can hike from the city of Point Arena and cross unspoiled coastal prairies on BLM-managed public lands. Or, you can choose to traverse the dunes and walk the wave slope at Manchester State Beach.
No visit would be compete without a visit to the Point Arena Lighthouse, where a breathtaking 360 degree view of the coast, mountains and farmland is the reward for the climb to the top of the 300-foot-tall tower.
Downtown Point Arena has friendly stores and shopkeepers and a historic theater, beautifully restored by the town’s residents.
Climb the winding stairs to the top of Point Arena Lighthouse, tour the museum, and visit the gift shop. Rent a lighthouse keeper's cottage for the night.
|During the winter look for a rare Laysan Albatross in Point Arena cove.|
Visit Bowling Ball Beach, near Schooner Gulch at low or minus tide. You will discover an eroded reef with grooves resembling bowling lanes. Sphere-shapped boulders complete the "bowling alley" effect.
Two miles north of Point Arena, access the Stornetta Public Lands along Lighthouse road. Graceful Tundra Swans winter here on this working landscape where cattle and farmining exist in harmony with hikers and wildlife watchers.
Wildflower fans will love the Manchester State Park where poppies, paintbrush, baby blue eyes, blue iris, sea pinks, and lupines thrive. The park features a five-mile beach and unusual amounts of driftwood washed up from the Point Area catch basin.
Visit Historic Downtown Point Arena, beautifully restored by the town's residents. See the Arena Theater, a must see Historical Landmark beauty. Enjoy oceanfront dining and unique shopping opportunities.
