Discover the Coast @ Pacific Grove

Waves from the Pacific Ocean hit rocks off the shoreline and spray into the air.

Sharing borders with the Monterey Bay, City of Monterey, Pacific Ocean, and the Del Monte Forest, this coastal community offers breathtaking view and recreational activities.

It’s all in the heart of the Monterey Peninsula, with its many attractions, abundant natural resources and beautiful access to the California Coast.

Insider Tips

1.

Visit coastal scrub, chaparral, and oak woodland ecosystems located in the Native Plant Garden exhibit at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History.  Take your picture inside the "spirit nest", an interactive art piece of interwoven oak, plum, and willow boughs, big enough to hold four people.

2.

Take coastal trail walks along Asilomar State Beach, a narrow one-mile strip of sandy beach and rocky coves.

3.

Discover the Asilomar Natural Dune Preserve native plant greenhouse where more than 450,000 plants representing 25 species have been grown and planted in the dunes and coastal bluffs (across from Asilomar State Beach).

4.

Scan the waters in the Monterey Bay, you may see a humpback, grey, or blue whale.

5.

Take a stroll through Pacific Grove's historic downtown with buildings dating back to the early 1900's.

6.

Learn about the miraculous and unique annual cycle of western monarch butterflies at the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary.  Discover why Pacific Grove is nicknamed "Butterfly Town, U.S.A."

7.

Hike, bike, and ride horses on 86 miles of rugged trails at the Fort Ord National Monument.
