Trailhead and Equestrian Camp


Facility overviewThe Cowboy Camp trailhead offers a number of amenities for visitors:  day use parking for both autos and horse trailers, restrooms, and a wildlife viewing deck.  However, no potable water is available.

The Cowboy Camp Equestrian Campground is open from the third Saturday in April through the third Saturday in November each year.

Overnight parking is provided for equestrian use by both individuals and groups. 

No reservations are required.  All sites are on a first come, first served basis.

Getting there:  Cowboy Camp Trailhead is located on the west side of State Highway 16, one mile south of Highway 20.

 Horseback ridersThings to know before you go:
  • Access to the Cowboy Camp Loop Trail requires fording Bear Creek.  During the rainy season, water levels can be high for up to one week after a large storm.
  • All vehicles must stay on gravelled or paved surfaces.
  • Between December and June of each year, there may be cattle in the area.
