Volunteer Program

The Ridgecrest Field Office had two very sucessful National Public Land Day projects spread over two consecutive weekends.  The first held in the Indian Wells Canyon Recreation Area on September 29 and the second in the Radamacher Hills on October 6. 

Thirty-seven volunteers and BLM staff turned out at Indian Wells Canyon where, in addition to carrying a heavy picnic table in pieces up to the Sky Ridge Trail and installing it, volunteers performed maintenance on the trail and Campsite #3 and did general clean-up of the area. 

Twenty-one volunteers from the Friends of Rademacher Hills, the Sierra Club, and others assisted with work at the Downs Roadhead in  the Radamacher Hills viewshed.  The Downs Roadhead is a key entry point for the 14 -mile trail system in the 18,000 acres area on the southside of Ridgecrest.  One group built and installed a small picnic table while another group installed parking barriers and defined entry points for the trail system.

Another group initiated parking barriers and completed some surface restoration work at a second, smaller parking area further south. Then all turned out to pick up trash in the area before having a great lunch following completion of the project work.
