This map depicts the range of the desert tortoise in relation to the allotments assessed in 2008. The part of desert tortoise range depicted in this map is the same as that depicted in the WEMO Plan 2006. The desert tortoise has been found in three of the allotments. The allotments are Hansen Common, Walker Pass Common, and Tunawee Common and they contain non-critical desert tortoise habitat. Hansen Common contains a strip about ½ a mile wide and 7 miles long on the fringe of the non-critical tortoise habitat. The non-critical tortoise habitat within Walker Pass Common extends along the valley floor with branches going up into the canyons of the Sierra foothills. The non-critical tortoise habitat within Tunawee Common extends from base of the foothills on the west across the valley floor to the eastern boundary with China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station.
