A seagull flies over the California Coastal National Monument which stretches along the entire coast of California and extends 12 miles into the Pacific Ocean.  The Monument includes 20,000 rocks, islands, pinnacles and reefs.

Lava Mountain Allotment Environmental Assessment and Maps

This map shows the outline of the Lava Mountain Allotment. Basically it is a rectangle with a “toe” sticking out of the southeast corner. The toe is the portion of the allotment that will be transferred out of the allotment and to the Superior-Cronese Desert Wildlife Management Area.  This transfer is in accordance with the prescription in the West Mojave Plan.  The transfer of property will leave the allotment with an inwardly dented corner on the southeast.

This map shows the range of the Mohave Ground Squirrel in relation to the Sheep Grazing Allotments in the Ridgecrest Field Office Area.  Lava Mountain Allotment is located east of Johannesburg and south of Ridgecrest. This map shows the range of the desert tortoise in relation to the sheep grazing allotments in the Ridgecrest Field Office Area.  Lava Mountain Allotment is located east of Johannesburg and south of Ridgecrest.  The allotment has 18,737 acres of non-critical tortoise habitat and 2,165 acres of critical tortoise habitat.  The critical habitat is in the southeast corner of the allotment and is shown in a rose color.  This critical habitat, along with 1,885 of non-critical habitat, is what will be taken from the allotment and re-designated as part of the Superior-Cronese Desert Wildlife Management Area.
