Recreationist throughout the world travel to Ivanpah Dry Lake´s expansive open spaces to play!  International championship racing, archery, kite buggying, and land sailing are just some of the activities this dry lake is used for.  The lake is located on I-15 at the California/ Nevada border (Primm, Nevada).  Nearby hotels and restaurants/ casinos make this a favorite place for wind power recreationist!

Film industry and scientific research are drawn to the unobstructed open space.

Free permits are required to access the site.  This dry lake is closed to motorized vehicles. Any commercial or organized events require special recreation permits. Please call Elaine Downing, (760) 326-7003 for more information.

Renewal Permits  for  FY 2010 are being processed and should be in the mail by the first week of October. 
Please continue to use your 2009 permit until you receive your 2010. If you have not received a new permit by Oct  9, 2009 please contact Elaine Downing @ 760-326-7003

NEW WORLD LAND SAILING SPEED RECORD

On Saturday March 20th1999 , on the day before the America's Landsailing Cup Regatta, the 'Iron Duck' was piloted In front of an enthusiastic crowd to a land speed record of 116.7mph

 On the morning of March 26th 2009, The Greenbird piloted by Richard Jenkins smashed the world land speed record for wind powered vehicles, recording a run clocked at 126.1 mph.
