A seagull flies over the California Coastal National Monument which stretches along the entire coast of California and extends 12 miles into the Pacific Ocean.  The Monument includes 20,000 rocks, islands, pinnacles and reefs.

As of12 March 2010:

THE EAST SIDE (LOTTO STORE) OF IVANPAH DRY LAKE IS CURRENTLY CLOSED DUE TO FLOODING.

THE WEST (WHISKY PETES) SIDE IS CURRENTLY OPEN FOR LAND SAILING. 
Please watch the weather, any rain in the area will cause the lake to close.

Recreationist throughout the world travel to Ivanpah Dry Lake´s expansive open spaces to play!  International championship racing, archery, kite buggying, and land sailing are just some of the activities this dry lake is used for.  The lake is located on I-15 at the California/ Nevada border (Primm, Nevada).  Nearby hotels and restaurants/ casinos make this a favorite place for wind power recreationist!

Free permits are required to access the site for recreational uses. This dry lake is closed to motorized vehicles.  Any commercial or organized events require special recreation permits. Please call (760) 326-7000 for more information.

NEW WORLD LAND SAILING SPEED RECORD

On Saturday March 20th1999 , on the day before the America's Landsailing Cup Regatta, the 'Iron Duck' was piloted In front of an enthusiastic crowd to a land speed record of 116.7mph

 On the morning of March 26th 2009, The Greenbird piloted by Richard Jenkins smashed the world land speed record for wind powered vehicles, recording a run clocked at 126.1 mph.
