Needles Field Office
It is the mission of the BLM Needles Field Office to sustain the health, diversity and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The public lands contribute in many different ways to the wealth of the nation and to the quality of life of every American citizen. For example, we provide recreation opportunities; we provide access to resources; and we protect some of the Mojave's most significant cultural, historic, and natural places. And, we serve communities through science, wildland firefighting, and law enforcement.

The Needles Resource Area (NRA) supports a wide variety of wildlife species, from the unique bird, the roadrunner, to the magestic desert bighorn sheep and Mojave Green Rattlesnake. As is true throughout the biological world, certain wildlife forms are endemic to specific life zones, although some species have the adaptability to inhabit a number of life zones with ease, e.g, the coyote. There is somewhat of a general division between species of wildlife found in the high and low deserts. The NRA has components of three deserts: the Colorado, the Eastern Mojave, and the Great Basin. The resource area also has the Sonoran Desert life zone interspersed within the Colorado Desert, in particularly the Whipple Mountains.
