Tumey Hills Target Shooting
Tumey Hills Day Use Area (BLM photo)
The Panoche and Tumey Hills are now under Fire Season Vehicle Restrictions. No motorized access is allowed from April 15 to October 17.
Target shooting must take place at least 150 yards from the Tumey Hills Day Use Area
There are no designated target shooting areas in the Hollister Field Office area, however, Public Lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management are open to target shooting except when prohibited by other applicable laws and regulations.
There are no BLM Public Lands administered by the Hollister Field Office within 150 miles of San Francisco that are publicly accessible for target shooting. We suggest visiting the National Shooting Sports Foundation website to find a range that is open to the public or visit the Santa Clara County Field Sports Park Shooting Range in San Jose that is managed by the County of Santa Clara.
The Tumey Hills do not have designated ranges or shooting areas; however, target shooting is allowed. For maps and more information about this area you can call us at (831) 630-5000.
To ensure a safe and fun target shooting experience for yourself and other users of the Public Lands, remember to:
Use weapons and ammunition that are compliant with existing state and federal laws (Use of lead ammunition for the purpose of recreational target shooting is legal)
Employ a safe backstop (hill) within close proximity behind the target
Remove all targets, brass, shotgun hulls, clay pigeons, and any and all items used for your target shooting
The BLM enforces laws meant to protect the safety of all users and beauty of the lands:
