The Panoche and Tumey Hills are under Fire Season Vehicle Restrictions from Mid-April to Mid-October. No motorized access is allowed during this period.

The Tumey Hills offer campers endless opportunities for free dispersed camping.  Campers making a campfire are required to obtain a campfire permit.  These permits are free of charge and may be obtained from any BLM or U.S. Forest Service office in California or online.  There is no water available in the Tumey Hills.  For maps and more information about this area you can call (831) 582-2200 for an area brochure.

The BLM enforces laws meant to protect the safety of all users and beauty of the lands:
Do not cross onto private lands without land owner permission
Do not camp within 200 yards of any wildlife watering improvement

To keep these lands wild and safe:
Park within 15 feet of the roadside
Stay on open, signed routes while driving
Routes are not considered open unless they are signed open
Observe the 14 day limit within a 28 day period
Bring a shovel for personal sanitation and fire prevention
