What the restrictions are:
-- Motorized vehicles must OBSERVE BARRICADES AND SIGNS MARKING UNSAFE, SENSITIVE OR RESTRICTED AREAS. Vehicles found in closed areas may be towed or impounded at the owner's expense. Please be cautious of authorized motor vehicles while using Fort Ord Public Lands.

-- NON-STREET LEGAL MOTOR VEHICLES INCLUDING MOTORCYCLES ARE NEVER ALLOWED on Fort Ord Public Lands. This restriction is required to protect sinsitive habitats and species; and reduces erosion which are requirements of the Habitat Management Plan.

-- TRAIL USE IS RESTRICTED TO NON-MOTORIZED USE ON AUTHORIZED TRAILS. These trails are marked with brown, numbered trail markers. BLM trail maps (found at this kiosk) also show authorized trail. Please take one for reference. Staying on these trails will keep you:
          - off fragile plant and animal habitats
          - on safe, maintained trails
          - out of poison oak; and
          - out of dangerous unexploded ordnance areas

-- Red trail markers indicate a closed trail. For you own safety and for the health of your public lands, USE OF A CLOSED TRAIL IS NEVER ALLOWED except with written permission by an authorized officer. Trails that have no signs or are not shown of BLM's recreation trail maps are also closed.

-- DO NOT BRING WEAPONS onto Fort Ord Public Lands. Fort Ord is close to many neighborhoods, schools and businesses. Possession, use and/or discharge of any kind of weapon is never allowed. This includes paintball guns, conventional guns, etc.

-- Even small open flames or fires have the possibility of escaping and becoming large. CAMPFIRES or other open flame fires, INCLUDING FIREWORKS, ARE NEVER ALLOWED without ritten permission from BLM.

-- Fort Ord Public Lands are open for public use every day. Vision is limited and support services are not avaiable at night, therefore, PUBLIC USE IS ALLOWED FROM DAWN TO DUSK except with written permission by an authorized officer.

-- Litter is ugly and can be harmful to you and other visitors, plants, and animals. LITTERING and the disposal of any commercial, industrial or household waste IS NEVER ALLOWED. It is easy to accidentally litter. Please be conscientious of water bottles and your food wrappers.

9. Wood cutting or the collection of wood is not allowed. Many animals use downed wood for nesting, sleeping or feeding; so to protect sensitive species and habitat for the future, cutting or collection is not allowed. Take with you only memories and leave only footprints.

These closures and restrictions are under the authority of 43 CFR 8341.2. Persons violating these closures and restrictions shall be subject to the penalties provided in 43 DFR 8360.0-7 and 8340.0-7, including a fine not to exceed $100,000 and/or imprisonment not to exceed 12 months.
