The Fort Ord Public Lands provides a unique habitat reserve and endless recreation opportunities for the Monterey Peninsula. To help preserve the health, diversity, and productivity of this habitat, please observe the following safety tips and regulations:
- Motor vehicle traffic is prohibited except by permit. Motor vehicles are restricted to access parking areas only.
- Possession, use, and/or discharge of any weapons is prohibited.
- Campfires and use/discharge of fireworks are prohibited.
- Collection of down wood or wood cutting is prohibited.
- While every effort has and is being made to clear dangerous materials, 60 years of military occupation make it possible that live rounds and explosives remain in public areas as well as posted areas. If you encounter unfamiliar objects, especially metal, DO NOT TOUCH. Instead, MAKE A NOTE OF THE LOCATION and CALL THE FEDERAL POLICE at (831) 242-7851. - Be aware mountain lions are present. It is important to keep children and small animals within sight. If you come in contact with a mountain lion, do not run. Try to appear as large and loud as possible -- raise your hands. Pick up small children and avoid bending over or crouching. Fight back if attacked. Report any mountain lion sightings to the California Department of Fish and Game 24-hours a day at (916) 445-0045 or (831) 848-2576.
- Public use is limited to the hours between one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.
- Littering and disposal of any commercial, industrial, or household waste (including yard clippings which may contain invasive plant seeds) is prohibited.
