Please use caution in the intertidal zone and respect local regulations regarding access to the rocks, islands, and pinnacles of the California Coastal National Monument.
Viewing access to this rock is available from the Pigeon Point Light Station State Historic Park managed by California State Parks. The site around Prisoner Rock was known historically as Whaler's Cove. Be sure to check out the California State Parks web site about Prisoner Rock to learn more about the rock and cove's unique maritime history.

This location is an entry point to the California Coastal Trail
The Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) owns land adjacent to the State Park and built a nice kiva-shaped rest area which provides perfect viewing of Prisoner Rock.
This portion of the California Coastal National Monument is within the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary managed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
