| Description: | You are invited to join a BLM hike this winter to some of the less explored regions managed by the El Centro Field Office. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about conservation and multiple use management and to visit some outstanding desert scenery in the area. We will take a journey into the Sawtooth Mountains Wilderness from the Cottonwood Campground of McCain Valley. The Pepperwood Trail is a 4.2 mile hike (one-way) that leads to a spring surrounded by cottonwoods. A rocky knoll near the end of the hike offers views of Canebrake Canyon and the In-Ko-Pah Mountains. |

| Reservations: | Call the hike reservation hotline at 760-337-4415 between the following times: Starting: 12:00PM, Tuesday, TBD Ending: 12:00PM, Friday, TBD Callers should leave their name, phone number and number of people in their party(max. 4). Based on safety considerations, 20 is the maximum number of participants allowed on each hike. If the requested number of participants exceeds the maximum number, reservations will be allocated in the order of calls. If there are less than 3 participants for a hike, the hike may be canceled. Be sure to check if you are on the list and for meeting locations by calling the hotline after 1:00PM Friday, TBD. |
| Miscellaneous: | - BLM requires that any participant under the age of 18 be accompanied by an adult.
- Pets are not allowed.
- Be sure to bring a day pack, lunch, 2 quarts of water per person, sturdy shoes, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen and warm clothing.
- The length of each hike varies and hikers should expect rugged wilderness terrain with no trail or other man-made improvements.
- Trips will return to El Centro in the mid to late afternoon.
- Trailheads are accessible by passenger vehicle and involve approximately 1 to 2 hours of driving each way from the El Centro Field Office.
- Car pooling is encouraged!
