Geothermal Lease Sales

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) California State Office will offer for competitive sale six parcels totaling approximately 14,306 acres of Federal lands in Imperial County, California for geothermal leasing. These parcels fall within the Truckhaven, West Chocolate Mountains and the Imperial Sand Dunes leasing areas, all within the boundaries of the BLM El Centro Field Office.

The competitive sale will be held at the BLM California State Office, 2800 Cottage Way, Sacramento, CA 95825. All parcels will be available for lease at the auction scheduled to begin at 9:00 am on Thursday, September 11, 2014.

Cooling towers at a geothermal power plant.
These drum-like structures house large fans which help cool down the geothermal power plant. This condenses vapor which goes into the turbine. The wet cooling towers at the plant in the East Mesa use fresh water from the East High-line Canal.
