Each summer and fall, Southern California faces the threat of wildland fire within a developing and expanding urban interface. The threat of a potentially large or destructive fire is always present. The goal of the Bureau and Land Management is to prevent the loss of life, resources, and property while maintaining a healthy ecosystem in which fire plays a vital role. Fire Prevention, Mitigation, and Education programs and specialists provide public outreach and education about the wildland-urban interface and the risk fire poses to communities. Fire Mitigation and Education specialists work cooperatively with local Fire Departments and Firesafe Councils to develop a unified message for fire prevention emphasizing landowner responsibility for maintaining firesafe structures and grounds.
