General Description of the Project

Hawes has applied for a right-of-way grant for the improvement, modification, and commercial use of an existing route, which traverses approximately 1.3 miles in a west-northwesterly direction from the County-maintained Helendale Road diagonally across BLM land and then encounters the northeastern edge of the private land on which the HCF has been approved by the County. The portion of the route proposed for upgrade begins approximately 1.5 miles south of SR58 at the route’s intersection with Helendale Road, heading to the northwest.

Public Comments

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is reviewing the Environmental Assessment for an access road to the Hawes Compost Facility near Hinkley, California.

In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the BLM is accepting comments related to issues and alternatives for the proposed access road. Comments relating to the access road will be accepted in writing or by e-mail through September 30, 2011. Public involvement is an essential part of the development Environmental Assessment. We encourage you to attend the meeting, get the facts, and give us your input.
