South Sierra Management Area KER-311 The Ker-311 historic property and encompassing fenced area consist of approximately 160 acres. The historic property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 14, 1980. The site is recognized for its importance in understanding the prehistory and history of the South Sierra Nevada cultural region of California. To protect the cultural values of the site, its location and characteristics are withheld from public disclosure, pursuant to National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended, Section 304. The area is characterized by Juniper Woodland and Scrub flora dispersed down an alluvial fan located near the Piute Mountains and overlooking the South Fork Valley of the Kern River. Objective Manage the Ker-311 National Register property for the protection of its historic values that qualified the site for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Page 152 Management Prescriptions The SMA is open for the leasing of oil, gas and geothermal resources subject to NSU. The SMA is unavailable for livestock grazing due to other resource concerns. Support Actions Encourage valid archaeological research to enhance the long term preservation and management of this unique cultural property.
