August 9, 2014 - National Lighthouse Day Celebration (Saturday Morning)
On August 7, 1789 the US government took over responsibility for building and maintaining our nation’s lighthouses. Two hundred years later, in recognition of the signing of the Lighthouse Act by President George Washington, US Congress designated August 7, 1989, as National Lighthouse Day.
- Piedras Blancas Light Station will be celebrating National Lighthouse Day during the public tours on Saturday, August 9th. Docents, in period attire, will re-enact life at the light station. This special tour is offered at the regular fee of $10 for adults and $5 for ages 6-17. Meet at the former Piedras Blancas Motel, located 1.5 miles north of the light station, by 9:45.
