Piedras Blancas Light Station

Outstanding Natural Area

Outstanding Natural Area

On May 8, 2008, President Bush signed into law the Consolidated Natural Resources Act of 2008 (S. 2739). This Act of Congress designated Piedras Blancas Historic Light Station as an Outstanding Natural Area and added the light station to the Bureau of Land Management's National Landscape Conservation System.

Text of this entire law is available from the Government Printing Office (pdf).

In 2013 the Piedras Blancas Outstanding Natural Area was expanded to include additional State Park land along the coastline. The present Piedras Blancas Outstanding Natural Area encompasses the Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal rookery. The resulting 476 acre Piedras Blancas Outstanding Natural Area is co-managed by the Bureau of Land Management and California Department of Parks and Recreation.
