Paleontology

Several world class paleontological sites such as the Maricopa and McKittrick brea pits, Shark Tooth Hill, Bena Road petrified forest, Chico Martinez Creek and the Bopesta Formation-Horse Canyon fossil beds attract scientists to the public lands managed by the Bakersfield Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management.

Mining History

Visitors can discover the remains of Gold Rush era mining history tucked away in the corners of the Keyesville Mining District, near Lake Isabella.
