Chimney Peak response area consists of  Lamont Peak, Long Valley, Owens Peak, Bald Mountain, the Pacific Crest Trail, and the Domeland Wilderness. They work closely with  Bald Mountain Lookout, an interagency  fire lookout operated by BLM and the U.S. Forest Service.

A six-person crew operates Chimney Peak's type IV engines.  Because of its high altitude at its location, the Chimney Peak Station opens late in the fire season (in late May or early June) and closes in late September of each year.
