King Range National Conservation Area - 2008 Interpretive Hikes
June 7: Tidepool Exploration --Have you ever wondered what's hiding under the ocean? Typically twice a day the ocean uncovers its floor and allows us to explore its intertidal ecosystem. Join Interpretive Specalist Rachel Sowards at Mal Coombs Park (Cape Mendocino Lighthouse) in Shelter Cove at 8:30am. Exploration will last 90 minutes.
July 4: Explore the Lost Coast with your Senses! King Range Intern Whitney Buttleman will guide you on a sensory stimulating hike. Meet at Nadelos Campground at 10am.
July 6: Seaweed --Meet at Mal Coombs Park (Cape Mendocino Lighthouse) in Shelter Cove at 9am. Naturalist Carol Sullivan will explain how to identify seaweed and teach you great ways to prepare it so your mouth and belly will thank you. Bring your favorite seaweed recipes!
July 18: Rising Moon Setting Sun --Meet at King Range Project Office at 4pm. Hike to King Peak to watch the full moon rise while the sun sets! Please contact Sanctuary Forest to sign up for this hike. Sanctuary Forest: 707-986-1087 ex. 5#
July 19: Forest & Community -- King Range Intern Whitney Buttleman will draw the connections between forest relationships and relationships found in our community. Meet at Hidden Valley trailhead at 1pm.
July 26: Trailbuilding Workshop --Meet at King Range Project Office at 9:30am. BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner Scott Adams will teach sustainable trail building while giving attendees the opportunity to put their skills to work on the new-incomplete mountain bike trail.
