The Headwaters Education Center (HEC) is open every Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 3pm, June - August 2013. Come to the HEC and join us for the Headwaters Forest Reserve 2013 Lecture Series! Over 100 years ago, the building now known as the HEC served as an engine house to store the locomotives that hauled logs to the lumber mill at Falk. In 2008, the engine house was dismantled piece by piece and moved from its original location across the South Fork Elk River to it's new location along the Elk River Trail. Join us on weekends for fun activities that may include owl pellet dissection, nature journaling and making salmon prints with paint and rice paper. Or simply wander the train barn at your own pace and enjoy the interpretive displays that describe Headwaters Forest Reserve ecology and history. Habitat and Home
Headwaters Forest Reserve has a locally well-known and respected environmental education and resource interpretation program. These programs were created to promote a sense of stewardship and demonstrate the need for protection of the unique and valuable natural and cultural resources found in the area. The curriculum was designed to meet the educational needs of students and teachers and the resource conservation goals of the BLM.
