Headwaters Forest Reserve Guided Hikes
Basics of the Tour - KNOW BEFORE YOU GO...
- Guided hike - everyone stays together with the ranger
- The first 1/2 mile passes through a young to mid-aged forest with views of completed watershed restoration work.
- The last 2 miles are spent ascending and descending through the old-growth forest with a view across Salmon Creek to the largest stand of Douglas-fir and Redwood within the reserve
- Meet at Newburg Park in Fortuna at 10:00 a.m. Ranger gives an orientation and everyone leaves at 10:15 a.m.
- Follow ranger in own vehicle through Newburg Gate 3 1/2 miles on gravel road to the trailhead
- Hike is 2 and 1/2 miles round-trip, will be back at vehicles at 1:00 p.m.
- Hiking time is 3 to 4 hours
- Trail is moderately strenuous(20% grade in some places).
- No stopping for lunch but snacks are okay
- Hike is difficult for those under 10 years of age
- No pets are allowed
