Property Description:
This project area covers 46,937 acres of BLM property located in Shasta County, California within the Alturas Field Office boundary. This is a portion of the entire 330,419 acres that encompass the entire Shasta County WMA project area. Highway 89 marks the western boundary, and then the project area stretches to the east where it ends at the Lassen County line. The land includes a large portion of mixed Juniper, pine, fir, oak and shrub rangeland. Sites include the partially developed Pit River Campground, (west of Fall River Mills), along with several other sites along Cassel Road and Forest Service Road 18. A large portion of BLM land lies along Cinder Cone Road, which borders a large Wilderness Study Area to the north. Overall this is a diverse and unique area, offering landscapes not found in other parts of the Alturas Field Office area.
