Description: Perennial herb 8-24 inches (2-6dm) tall. Basal leaves are fleshy, toothed half-way up, and 1 1/8 - 1 1/2 inches (1.5-4cm) long. The flowers have hairy calyx and petals. The calyx is yellow to light purple, 1/4 - 3/8 inches (6-9mm) long, and the petals are yellow to dark purple, 1/4 - 3/8 inches (7-9mm) long.

Distribution:

Habitat: Serpentine barrens, open chaparral or woodland. Elevation 1568 - 3904 feet.

Flowering Period: Blooms May - July.
