Gander's Ragwort

Description: Perennial herb, 12-20 inches (3-5dm) tall, purple-tinged below. Basal leaves long as wide, with rounded tip (heart-shaped), thickish, toothed to shallowly lobed, and 1 1/2 - 3 1/8 inches (4-8cm). Leaves from stems few, and deeply-sharply toothed. Plant contains 4-8 flower heads with both disk (inner) and ray (outer) flowers. Each flower head has about 21 phyllaries (bracts at the base of the flower head), 3/8 inches (8-11mm) long. There are 13 or more ray flowers of an orange color, and 40 or less disk flowers. The fruit is with-out hairs.
Distribution:
Habitat: Chaparral, burns. Elevation 1280 - 3840.
Flowering Period: Blooms April - May.
