Description: Annual herb 4-16 inches (1-4dm) tall. Stems short, stiff, hairy, and branched at the base. Leaves are oblong to narrowly pear-shaped, deeply lobed, rounded on the ends, and 3/8 - 1 1/8 inches (1-3cm) long. Inflorescence are densely flowered cymes, with the flower stems 1/16 - 1/8 inches (1-4mm) long. The flowers have oblong, hairy calyx lobes, 1/16 - 1/8 inches (3-4mm) long, and bell-shaped, yellow corolla, 1/8 - 3/16 inches (3-5mm) long. Fruit are oblong capsules, 1/8 - 1/4 inches (4-7mm) long, with 5-30 ovoid, brown, pitted seeds, 1/16 inch (1-1.8mm) long.     

Distribution:

Modoc Plateau/Great Basin, from Eagle Lake to Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge, NV; into Oregon.

Habitat: Alkaline flats, dry lake margins. Elevation 4800 - 6400 feet.

Flowering Period: Blooms May - August.
