Description: Annual 3/4 - 4 3/4 inches (2-12cm) tall, with very small hairs. Leaves spear-shaped to egg-shaped, 1/4 - 3/8 inches (3-10mm) long. Flower stalks 6/16 - 1/2 inch (8-12mm) long. Calyx has reddish spots or is solid red. Corolla has a 4-lobed appearing upper lip which is maroon-purple, and a 1-lobed notched lower lip,  yellow with maroon dots at base. Fruit is 1/4 inch (5-6mm) long.

Distribution:

Habitat: Pinyon and juniper woodland. Alluvial fans, dry streamlets, granitic soils.

Flowering Period: Blooms March - May.
