Description: Annual, hairy herb, 3/4 - 15 inches (2-38cm) tall, with 4-angled stems. Leaves are reversed spear, or reversed pear shaped, 1/4 - 1 3/4 inches (7-45mm) long. Flowers have cylindrical, hairy calyx, 1/4 - 1/2 inches (6-13mm) long, and corollas 3/8 - 1/2 inches (9-12mm) long, with spreading, flat petals, and brownish to maroon slender tubes. Petals are white with maroon colored veins. The flower stems are 1/8 - 1/4 inches (2-6mm) long. Fruit are capsules, 1/4 - 5/8 inches (7-17mm) long, with oblong seeds, 1/8 inch (.3mm) long. 

Distribution:

Habitat: Bare, sunny areas around shrubs, rock outcrops on granitic soils. Elevation 320 - 4160 feet.

Flowering Period: Blooms March - May.
