Description: Herbaceous annual, stems weakly erect or somewhat reclining on ground with the tips ascending, simple or branched, sometime forming mats, smooth and glabrous. Submersed leaves linear, 3/8 to 1-1/4 (1 to 3 cm) inches long, emergent leaves oblong-lanceolate, 3/8 to 3/4 of an inch (1 to 2 cm) long, glabrous. Single flowers in leaf axils on long, slender pedicels. Five white to yellowish petals, sometime absent, united into tubular, 2-lipped flower. Fruit a one celled capsule, 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch (6 to 10 mm) long, opening when mature at apex, with smooth, shiny brown seeds.

Distribution: Within the public lands administered by the Redding Field Office, this species can be found in Tehama County on the east side of the Sacramento Valley, northeast of  Red Bluff in grassland/oak woodlands.

Habitat: Growing in moist or wet ground, associated with vernal pools, vernal marshes, lakes, ponds and sloughs at elevations of 0 to 2000 feet (0 to 610 meters).

Flowering Period: May to June
