Description:

Leafy gray-green perennial herb (forb) 1 to 2 feet (0.3-0.6 m) tall, with slender stems. Leaves less than 8 inches (20 cm); 20-35 pairs of leaflets with smooth edges. Flowers small & white ⅜ to ⅝ inches (10-16 mm), deep saucer shape.

Distribution: Northern Sierra Nevada; Sierra valley and surrounding areas

Habitat:

Dry meadowy flats (vernally saturated) & slopes in sagebrush scrub and open pine adjacent to meadows & seeps.  4,300 – 6,800 feet (1,300 – 2,100 m).

Flowering Period: June to August.

Similar Plants: Yarrow, Achillea lanulosa, but yarrow has sharply dissected leaves and Plumas ivesia has smooth edged leaflets. Similar to the yellow-flowered I. aperta  var. aperta but I. sericoleuca has white flowers and the petals stick out past the sepals.

Status: BLM Sensitive, California Native Plant Society List 1B.2
