Description: Perennial herb. Stem corm-like (underground vertical stem), 5/8 - 2 inches (1.5-5cm) long, 1/8 - 3/4 inches (3-18mm) wide, and oblong. Leaf narrow, pointy at tip, round, but flattens out at base. Leaf 1 1/2 - 6 inches (4-15cm) long, 1/8 - 2/8 inches (2-6mm) wide, and 1/8 - 3/8 inches (4-10mm) wide at base. Inflorescence contains 3-15 flowers. Sepals are triangular with bottom corners rounded, 1/8 inch (2-3mm) long. Petals are yellow, almond to spear - shaped with pointy tip, 2/8 - 3/8 inch (5-9mm) long, 1/8 inch (2-3mm) wide, and 1/16 inch (1-2mm) fused. Fruit is a follicle (dry, many-seeded fruit) which spreads out.

Distribution:

Habitat: Heavy soils, often clayey, coastal plain. Dry stony places, coastal sage scrub, chaparral. Elevation 48 - 2528 feet.

Flowering Period: Blooms April - July.
