Description: Annual herb 1 - 3 1/3 feet tall, mildly aromatic, soft-hairy below, and minutely bumpy above. Leaves are bright green. The lower leaves 1 1/8 - 2 inches (3-5cm) long, reversed spear-shaped, with a toothed edge. The upper leaves narrow spear-shaped, with a smooth edge. Flower are in heads with short stems. The group of bracts below the flowers are 3/16 - 1/4 inch (4.5-6mm) high, 1/4 - 5/16 inch (6-7.5mm) wide, with a spear-shaped bract. Each flower head contains 13-20 ray flowers, and 24 -31 disk flowers. Each ray flower is 1/8 - 1/4 inch (4-7mm) long, with both ray and disk flowers a deep yellow. Fruits are achenes with a beak, 1/8 inch (2-2.5mm) long.
Distribution:
Habitat: Dry slopes and valleys, chaparral, coastal scrub. Elevation 224 -3904 feet.
Flowering Period: Blooms August - October.
