Debbie loves working with the public and as someone who has been with the BLM for nine years total, she brings a wide range of experience to her position.
Debbie tells us a little about herself: "I am the Contact Representative for the Alturas Field Office. I have only been in this position for 2 ½ years. I originally began my career with the BLM in 1975 in Battle Mountain, Nevada - my hometown . I graduated from Battle Mountain High School and went on to Business College in Odgen, Utah. I started as a Clerk-Typist, moved to a Mail/File Clerk, EIS Clerk, and six and ½ years later when I left I was a Support Services Supervisor. I left the BLM in 1982 to marry and start a family. I have a husband, Rob, one daughter, Jessica (21), and two boys, Jeremy (20) and Justin (17). We moved to Cedarville, California, back to Battle Mountain, on to Susanville, California, and now to Alturas, California. After my children were semi-grown I decided to try it again with the government. Fortunately for me there was an opening and I jumped at it."
"... My job here consists of Webmaster, TimeKeeper, Records Manager, Mail Clerk, Public Contact, and a little of everything. I really love this job as I enjoy working with the public and trying new challenges. The BLM has really changed in the 19 years since I had left. It took awhile to adjust to all the new ways of doing things but I enjoyed the challenge. My biggest challenge is our website and learning Dreamweaver [Web page editing software]. This is constantly changing and keeping up with it is quite a task."
When it is time to re-charge Debbie enjoys traveling and seeing new places. And she gives us a brief insight into her future: "Our family loves to travel and we go every opportunity we get. We especially enjoy the Southern Oregon Coast (haven’t made it to the Northern half yet) and at least once a year, a trip to Mexico. We have explored different regions in Mexico but all are on the coast. We love Alturas but plan on retiring in Oregon, near the coast."
