Teenage Paleontologists Present Barstow Rock Formation Research at the AEG National Science Fair
Hannah and Zachary Larsen, 11th graders from Riverside, California, were invited to participate in the first annual American Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists science fair. The twins presented habitat and climatic data from Miocene-era flora and fauna from the Barstow Formation, earning them second prize and a $100 gift certificate.
New Tyrannosaur Discovered in Southern Utah

AMERICA'S GREAT OUTDOORS: Salazar Announces Fee Free Days at National Parks, Other Public Lands for 2013
Federal lands will offer free admittance on various special occasions. Active duty military members and their dependents are eligible for a free annual pass that provides entrance to lands managed.

Interior Secretary to Tour Stornetta Public Lands

Jewell will be joined by acting Bureau of Land Management Director Neil Kornze in what advocates hope will prove a tipping point in their bid to expand the California Coastal National Monument so it includes the Stornetta Public Lands near Point Arena.

Solar Project Will Cause Unavoidable Damage to Wildlife
The proposed Palen Solar Electric Generating System will cause damage to wild bird populations that cannot be mitigated, and poses significant risk to fringe-toed lizards and desert kit foxes as well. That's the gist of testimony provided by state and federal staff, scientists, and environmental activists at a state agency hearing.
