BLM RESOURCE ADVISORY
COUNCIL TO MEET IN ALTURAS
Members of the Bureau of Land Management's
Northeast California Resource Advisory Council will discuss a variety of natural
resource management topics, when they meet Thursday and Friday, Jan. 5 and 6,
at the BLM's Alturas Field Office, 708 W. 12th St., Alturas.
The meeting, open to the public, runs from 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 5, and from 8 a.m.
to about noon on Jan. 6. Time for public comment has been reserved at 11 a.m.
on Jan. 6.
On Thursday, council members will hear an update on the BLM's wild horse and
burro management program, receive an update on development of new land use plans,
and hear reports from the managers of the BLM Alturas, Eagle Lake (Susanville)
and Surprise (Cedarville) field offices.
Discussion of the multi-agency Sagebrush Steppe Ecosystem Restoration Project
and a report on geothermal and wind energy projects round out the agenda on
Friday.
The 15-member advisory council, one of 25 such BLM advisory boards in the Western
states, advises the BLM on the broad spectrum of the agency's public land and
natural resource management responsibilities. Members represent diverse public
land interests including livestock grazing, recreation, environmental groups,
the timber industry, historical and archaeological interests, wild horse and
burro interest groups, local government and the public at large.
