Release
For Release: December 14,
2005 Bureau of Land Management to Burn Brush Piles at Fort Ord Thirty to forty brush piles are to be burned by the Bureau of Land Management at the former Fort Ord military base starting December 19. Fire Management Officer Mario Marquez said the burning will take place in the vicinity of Eucalyptus Road and Barloy Canyon Road. The public is advised to keep clear of the area for safety reasons. Depending on the weather, the pile burning will take approximately 5-7 days to complete and smoke may be visible. The piles of brush are part of a fuel break system along the trails at Ft. Ord. The fuel breaks are designed to reduce the threat of an uncontrolled wildland fire and to lower the potential negative impacts of a wildfire if it occurred. For more information contact Fire Mitigation Specialist Mike Chiodini at (831) 630-5029 or Ft. Ord Park Ranger Tammy Jakl (831) 394-8314. -BLM- _________________________________________________________________
