BLM PIT RIVER CAMPGROUND CLOSES FOR THE WINTER SEASON
The Bureau of Land Management's
Pit River Campground and Day Use Area near Fall River Mills has closed for the
winter season. The facility will re-open in time for the start of the stream
fishing season next April.
Tim Burke, manager of the BLM's Alturas Field Office, said new improvements
were well received by visitors. Prior to this year's camping season, the BLM
re-designed the facility to separate overnight camping and picnic areas. A new
raft launching area was built, a fishing access point was developed for disabled
visitors, and new tables, fire rings, restrooms and barbecues were installed.
"For the first time campground hosts were on hand to provide information
and services to visitors," Burke said. "We received many positive
comments from campers who appreciated the services of our hosts, and from the
hosts themselves, who enjoyed the opportunity to camp in this beautiful location.
The seasonal campground closure does not mean the end of camping opportunities
on public lands managed by the BLM. Primitive camping is allowed on most public
lands, providing that winter weather does not prevent access.
Information on camping and other recreation opportunities is available from
any BLM office, or on the web at www.ca.blm.gov.
