U.S. Department of the Interior News Release For Release:
October 28, 2005 BLM's California Web Site Reconnected The Bureau of Land Management in California is pleased to announce that its web site is now back online at www.ca.blm.gov. The public can again obtain non-Indian trust information about the BLM in a timely manner. The BLM recognizes the impact of this disconnection to its customers and thanks them for their patience and understanding during this period. The last six months have posed challenges, but making sure that all constituents receive timely information about the agency's actions has been a priority for the entire agency. BLM California State Director Mike Pool said, "We have not been idle. We have used this opportunity to redesign and refresh the look since we were last online, we invite folks to take a new fresh look." Pool went on to say that some online services such as the bookstore, photo library, wildlife database, and upcoming events calendar are not yet available. Because the BLM is a large organization with a great deal of information and many systems that support the mission, reengineering the Internet infrastructure to enhance the manageability & security of these assets is a complicated effort. "The disruption of our Internet system does not diminish the BLM's commitment to using cooperative conservation to carry out our mission and serve the public," said Pool. "We thank you again for your patience during this time." As the BLM completes its first round of web site reconnections of state-specific information sites, the following other BLM state office web sites are also available on the Internet: Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. In addition, the BLM's wild horse and burro information site is also now available. The bureau originally disconnected these sites so that site security could be improved. The BLM is now concentrating on reconnecting sites that provide interactive non-Indian trust data and services. Unfortunately, sites of this kind are more complex and time consuming to reconnect. Additional announcements will be made as other sites are reconnected. -BLM- |
