Discussions about land use planning
and public land recreation management will highlight the agenda, when the Bureau
of Land Management's Northwest California Resource Advisory Council meets Wednesday
and Thursday, Oct. 19 and 20, in Arcata.
On Oct. 19, members will convene at 10 a.m. at the BLM Arcata Field Office 1695
Heindon Rd. for a field tour to public lands managed by the Arcata Field Office.
Members of the public are welcome on the tour and must provide their own transportation
and lunch. Those who plan to attend should call the field office at (707) 825-2300
to make arrangements.
On Oct. 20, the council meets at 8 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Hotel
Arcata, 708 G St. The meeting is open to the public. The council will hear public
comments at 1 p.m.
Members will hear an update and provide comments on a draft management plan/environmental
impact statement for the BLM Ukiah Field Office, hear a status report on the
California Coastal National Monument Resource Management Plan and receive a
report on a proposal to create a national recreation area on the Sacramento
River south of Redding. The council also will discuss the BLM's recreation fee
programs and hear status reports from managers of the BLM's Arcata, Redding
and Ukiah field offices.
The 12-member advisory council advises BLM managers on natural resources and
land management issues. Members represent diverse public land interests including
recreation, environmental groups, energy and mineral development, timber, transportation
and rights of way, off-highway-vehicle use, local government and the public
at large.
