OVERSIGHT GROUP MEETING SET
Members of the Telephone Flat Geothermal
Project Oversight Group will meet Thursday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. at the Klamath
National Forest headquarters, 1312 Fairlane Rd. in Yreka. The meeting is open
to the public.
The group will discuss proposals by Calpine Corp. to proceed with project development
work at the Telephone Flat Geothermal Project site near Medicine Lake.
Group members include representatives of the Pit River and Klamath Tribes, Shasta
Nation, Shasta Tribe, Inc., the Native Coalition, the Save Medicine Lake Coalition,
the Medicine Lake Homeowners' Association, Mt. Shasta Bioregional Ecology Group
and Siskiyou County.
The group was developed accordance with the Nov. 2002 Forest Service and Bureau
of Land Management record of decision approving development of the geothermal
project. The group is charged with periodic review of planning and monitoring
requirements associated with development, operation and decommissioning of the
49-megawatt electrical generation plant. Based on the reviews, the group is
also charged with evaluating the company's compliance with various impact thresholds.
