BLM District Advisory Council to Meet in Baker

The Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) California Desert District Advisory Council will participate in a field tour of the BLM-administered public lands on Friday, Sept. 23, and meet in formal session on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Baker Community Center at 56725 Park Ave.

The council and interested members of the public will gather in the parking lot of the Desert Studies Center at Zzyzx at 7:45 a.m. Tour stops will include Salt Creek. BLM staff will give presentations on cultural resources and tamarisk removal. The next stop will be Dumont Dunes with discussions on management, lizard surveys, filming activities, recreation fees and the Dunes technical review team. The final stop will be China Ranch with discussions on the Amargosa Area of Critical Environmental Concern Plan, the Old Spanish Trail, and bird surveys. The public is welcome to participate in the tour, but should plan on providing their own transportation, drinks, and lunch.

Agenda items on Saturday will include reports by council members, an update by the district manager, and status reports on the West Mojave plan and the Surprise Canyon administrative draft environmental impact statement. All Desert District Advisory Council meetings are open to the public. Time for public comment may be made available by the council chairman during the presentation of various agenda items, and is scheduled at the end of the meeting.

Written comments also are accepted at the time of the meeting and, if copies are provided to the recorder, will be incorporated into the minutes.
