EA for Proposed Shooting Closure in Steele Valley Available for Public Review

An environmental assessment (EA) analyzing a proposed shooting closure on the BLM-managed public lands in Steele Valley southwest of Perris, Calif. has been released by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for public to review and comment.

This proposed closure is in response to numerous complaints BLM has received from local homeowners regarding stray bullets striking at or near their residences. The proposed shooting closure is located in Township 4 South, Range 4 West, S1/2 S1/2 SE1/4 of Section 32, SBM, Riverside County, California. BLM also would install "no shooting" signs and place boulders to block vehicle access to this area in an effort to protect local residents.

Copies of the EA are available at the BLM Palm Springs-South Coast Field Office, 690 W. Garnet Ave., North Palm Springs, and Desert District Office located at 22835 Calle San Juan de Los Lagos in Moreno Valley.

Comments must be submitted in writing by September 30, 2005, to Gail Acheson, Field Manager, BLM Palm Springs-South Coast Field Office, P.O. Box 581260, North Palm Springs, CA 92258. Comments also may be sent by fax to (760) 251-4899 or electronic mail to Elena_Misquez@ca.blm.gov.

For more information regarding the EA, contact BLM Associate Field Manager Elena Misquez at (760) 251-4800 or by e-mail at Elena_Misquez@ca.blm.gov.
