Carrizo Plain National Monument Advisory Committee to Meet

The Carrizo Plain National Monument Advisory Committee will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec.11, 2004. The meeting is at the Carrisa Plains Elementary School, on Highway 58, two miles west of the intersection of Highway 58 and Soda Lake Road in eastern San Luis Obispo County,

The nine members of the committee, appointed by the Secretary of the Interior, advise the U.S. Bureau of Land Management on resource management priorities and planning, as well as volunteer efforts and educational outreach in the 250,000-acre Monument.

The agenda for the December 11th meeting will include discussion of the Draft Resource Management Plan.

The Advisory Committee meeting is open to the public, and a public comment period is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Those signing up on the speaker's list may make oral comments at the meeting. A time limit for speakers may be imposed if the committee chair decides there is a need. Comments also may be submitted in writing at the meeting, or to the BLM office at 3801 Pegasus Drive, Bakersfield, CA 93308.

Because the meeting lasts most of the day, there will be a break for lunch at the noon hour. Lunch is not provided, so the public needs to come prepared. There are no facilities such as gas or food within 50 miles of the school.
