BLM Bishop Field Office and the Inyo National Forest Prescribed Fire Projects

As weather conditions permit, the White Mountain Ranger Districts of the Inyo National Forest and the BLM Bishop Field Office will be conducting prescribed fire operations (pile burning) near the community of Forty Acres throughout the fall season. Smoke may be visible at times from Highways 395, as well as from the communities of Forty Acres, Round Valley, Paradise and Swall Meadows.

Earlier this summer fire crews thinned approximately 10 acres of vegetation and piled it to be burned at a later date. The purpose of the burning is to complete the project and reduce hazardous fuels around the community of Forty Acres. This project will help protect residents and their homes from a wildland fire, and increase safety for firefighters who may be suppressing a fire near the community. This project is on BLM land adjacent to the west side of Forty Acres in Round Valley.
