BLM RESOURCE ADVISORY
COUNCIL WILL MEET IN UKIAH
Members of the U. S. Bureau of Land
Management's Northwest California Resource Advisory Council will focus on fire
management, land use planning and public land recreation topics, when they convene
for a field tour and meeting Thursday and Friday, Nov. 4 and 5, in Ukiah.
The session gets underway Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. at the BLM Ukiah Field Office, 2550
N. State St. Council members will hear a series of reports about ongoing fire
research and fire safe council activities, and then depart for an afternoon
tour of the University of California's Hopland Research and Extension Center.
On Nov. 5, the meeting begins at 8 a.m. at the BLM field office. Agenda topics
include a report on BLM recreation management in California, transportation
system funding, and development of a new Resource Management Plan for public
lands managed by the Ukiah Field Office. Council members will also hear a summary
presentation, and provide comments, on the Draft Resource Management Plan/Environmental
Impact Statement for the BLM's California Coastal National Monument.
The field tour and meeting are open to the public. Time for public comments
has been set aside for 1 p.m. on Friday. Members of the public participating
in the field tour must provide their own transportation and lunch.
The 12 members of the citizen council represent a wide range of public land
interests including recreation, timber, environmental groups, local government,
transportation and rights of way and the public at large.
Working with BLM managers in Arcata, Redding and Ukiah, and the BLM California
state director, they advise the U. S. Secretary of the Interior on public land
and natural resource management issues in northwest California.
