For Immediate Release: October
18, 2004 CCal-05-08 BLM Lifts Special Fire Restrictions Due to the onset of rainy weather, the Folsom Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management has lifted both Stage One and Stage Two fire restrictions on all BLM-managed public lands within the Folsom Field Office boundary. This includes BLM-managed public lands in Nevada, Yuba, Placer, El Dorado, Amador, Sacramento, Calaveras, Tuolumne, Stanislaus, Sutter, and Mariposa Counties, a total of about 230,000 acres. The special fire restrictions were put in effect as an emergency measure in June because of extremely dry conditions early in the fire season. The restrictions placed severe limitations on the use of open fires, smoking, and the use of internal combustion engines on public lands in an effort to reduce the chances of a wildfire. According to Fire Management Officer Ken Hood, there is no longer a need for special precautions because of cooler, wet weather. Hood said that the General Fire Restrictions remain in place, and that a copy of those restrictions was available for public viewing at the Folsom BLM office. For additional information contact BLM's Folsom Field Office at 916-985-4474. -BLM-
